THE TRUE POWER OF HIDDEN FIGURES

Observing these ladies, so elegantly reveal the power of the Black women, was the heart and soul of this extraordinary movie. You laughed, you cried, you wondered how they would prevail, and your heart constantly cheered them on.

This film also opened our eyes to the realities of the 1960s, which was filled with the cruelties and hardships of racial segregation, and also the enormous challenges faced by women in the workplace.

These sisters defined power!

Their brilliant and beautiful selves fully showed up each day, delivering above and beyond the call of duty. They focused solely on being and contributing their absolute best; were incapable of anything else; and knew that they were essential, whether anyone else would ever recognize or acknowledge that—or not.

They loved and respected one another. Their great sense of sisterly love, equated to a great support system for one another. Dorothy Vaughan led her team to prove the obvious—that she was qualified to be the first employee supervisor of color in the space program, that her team could code that IBM mainframe, and that no other team could better conceptualize, prove, and assure the successful application of the requisite mathematical equations.

When Katherine Johnson became John Glenn’s most trusted mathematician, Mary and Dorothy cheered her on. These women knew the power of numbers and that if one succeeded, they all would benefit.

You are worth the fight. If not you—then who. If not now—then when. Your worth can not be determined by an outside force. You will face obstacles, failures, and setbacks but this does not mean you are not destined for greatness. These three seemingly ordinary women, lead very extraordinary lives, because they had the courage to fight. Continue to fight until you leave a mark on this world. Don’t give up when disappointments arise. Instead be faithful that your future is fruitful, and the fruits of your labor will by plentiful. Get ready for your harvest.
